St Brigidine Sisters

TREES PLANTED

The Sisters of St Brigidine have been supporting the work of Fifteen Trees for a number of years now and this year has been no exception. From Malvern to Mordialloc across to Bonbeach and Ardeer, 25 sisters have each  purchased 15 trees to reduce the carbon emission of their community cars. Of the 375 trees donated by the Sisters, 317 trees went to Christine and Peter Holmes from Landcare Euroa and another 60 trees to Nyah PS. Fifteen Trees
Dear Colleen, Here are some photos of the tree planting day which took place at our property. We are most grateful for the donation of the trees. To protect the trees from stock and wildlife, we have erected more fencing. The purpose for this particular planting was to link a tree line with existing native habitat as well as provide shelter for animals.  The photo (above) is of a Red-capped Robin taken from a four  year old tree-line,  so it doesn’t take long to restore some habitat as well as provide shade and shelter for stock. The robins were bobbing along the fence-line as we were attending to the trees and replacing some we had lost. They were diving down to the freshly exposed soil we had dug for the plants. Yours gratefully – Christine and Peter Holmes
Fifteen Trees Nyah PS also benefited from the Sister’s generosity and received 60 trees for their school grounds.
Nyah District Primary School has for the past 3 years been very involved in tree planting program with the local Nyah West Golf Club. Each year students have helped Golf Club members these plant trees. Students have thoroughly enjoyed this experience – which has involved students traveling to the golf club, planting trees and then enjoying a BBQ lunch. Each year we have had also been able to check on the previous trees that were planted and how they are growing. Thank you to the Sisters of St Brigidine for our 60 trees.
Fifteen Trees Huge thank you to Sr Anne Boyd and all the Sisters who have all jumped in to support the great work that community groups do for our native environment. Slàinte – Colleen
