I’m guessing we think alike when looking at the option to offset our flights. We wonder … just exactly where is the money going? We hesitate, we dither, we don’t quite understand the process and we end up not ticking the offset option.
Leonie Spencer from Lifestyle Travel Ballarat asked the same question when I approached her about the possibility of planting trees to help reduce the carbon footprint of her flights. Fifteen Trees is a little different from offset companies. Firstly, I don’t offer offsets! There is so much red/green tape around carbon offsetting that I just haven’t gone down that path. Instead, I offer people the chance to simply reduce the carbon footprint of their flights by planting one tree for every hour in the air.
Leonie was happy for her team to hand out my cards to Lifestyle Travel clients. This now gives them the opportunity to chose how many trees (if any) they would like to have planted to cover their flight. Leonie then went a step further and generously purchased 100 trees – one tree for every international flight booked through Lifestyle Travel.
Those 100 trees were planted by Pentland Hills Landcare. This dynamic group have been looking after our native environment for 46 years. Leonie’s 100 trees were part of a bigger planting of 1850 trees at Myrnion Creek (between Melbourne and Ballarat). Ninety adults and a hand full of kids turned up on tree planting day.
